3 Inspirations for our music video
Here With Me (d4vd):
This song is very, very similar to the song we're doing. It portrays a love story, but not a twisted one like the other two music videos.
Had lots of B-rolls to foreshadow the couple’s lives and their eventual deaths.
Cool-toned lighting with lots of neutrals, not a lot of warmth.
The setting was very romantic, and also very realistic. It’s not a fancy set, but more so a setting this story could actually take place in.
SHE (Tyler The Creator & Frank Ocean):
This music video talks about a very obsessed type of love, and portrays it in many ways. The genre itself is not exact, but similar to the genre of our song.
Lots of close ups + two shots throughout the video emphasize the dialogue between the characters so the audience can follow through the storyline.
Low angels while following the characters to express changing of scenes and location to show perspective of each of owns mind
Acting is very adolescent + satire to mimic sitcoms. The video is very unserious and dramatic much like kids/teens express how the main character “green goblin” is childish.
Early 2000’s costumes that go with the nostalgic theme of the story.
Non-diegetic sound of the lyrics.
Lyrics describe obsession which plays to the theme of the acting of a young guy stalking his neighborhood crush
Blue lighting to express nostalgia and that adds to the 2000 theme and feel. You can tell by also seeing props such as old bikes, vintage clothing. And also a TV with antennas to hint what kind of time period it takes place in.
Jump cuts between the artist and their lines show the perspective of both artist views and points of their lyrics that contribute to the ongoing contrast of stalker and protector.
We Cry Together (Kendrick Lamar & Taylour Paige):
While this music video isn't exactly within the same genre, the style of how it's filmed really replicates how we want to film our video.
One big tracking shot. They follow the characters around the house rather than cutting back and forth. The whole music video is following the characters as they move and interact throughout the house, giving it authenticity to a real argument as there are no cuts in real life.
The two characters are usually in the same two-shot together, and are seen interacting the whole time.
The acting is composed of lots of diverse body language between the characters expressing their frustration outside of words. This body language shows the switch between who has the upper hand throughout the music video.
The dialogue had lots of emotion in the voice where you could practically hear what they were feeling not just by what they're saying but from how they're saying it through their volume and tone.
The diegetic sound of keys jingling and doors slamming represents the home-like feel of the short film/music video, emphasizing that they’re just a couple in a regular home having this intense argument.
Overall, the music video itself is a short film and tells a very compelling story.
